9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL
Music and Lyrics by Dolly Parton, Book by Patricia Resnick
The hit 1980 film gets the musical treatment by one of its Grammy Award-winning original stars in this show with big heart and even bigger show-stopping songs! Jaded matriarch Violet, buxom backwoods secretary Doralee, and mistreated newcomer Judy are all under the employ of the overbearing womanizer Franklin Hart, Jr. These three unlikely cohorts team up and hatch a plan to get even with their egotistical, tyrannical boss. All of the madcap hilarity of the movie is intact, intertwined with Dolly Parton’s score that is part Broadway and part pop, a little bit country, and all toe-tapping fun!

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES
Music and Lyrics by Jerry Herman, Book by Harvey Fierstein
Welcome to the home of Zaza and the notorious Les Cagelles, where glitz, glamour, and “A Little More Mascara” are the norm. Georges, the manager, and Albin, the star of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, a premier drag nightclub, are faced with a dilemma when their son Jean-Michel announces his engagement to a girl – a girl whose father’s mission is to take down the club in the name of tradition, family, and morality. This often hilarious and genuinely touching musical puts family ties to the test, as sequins and saintliness clash and everyone struggles to bravely declare, “I Am What I Am.”

THE SOUND OF MUSIC
Music by RichardRodgers, Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, Book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse
First a Broadway Musical featuring Mary Martin, then an Academy Award winning film starring Julie Andrews; now Clear Space will mount this worldwide classic her at the beach this summer. The staunch Captain Von Trapp takes on a new governess, Maria– a nun too free spirited for any convent– to look after his over-disciplined children. She soon introduces the rebellious brood to art and freedom– commodities largely foreign in this militaristic household– and eventually wins the affections of the entire Von Trapp family. Told through countless musical theatre standards, such as “Edelweiss”, “My Favorite Things”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”, “Do-Re-Mi”, and the title song “The Sound of Music”, experience an evening of family, friends and love with this iconic musical.

THE FOREIGNER
by Larry Shue
Bashful Brit Charlie Baker is on holiday with his friend Froggy at a fishing lodge in rural Georgia. Charlie is so shy, in fact, that he can’t speak to the strangers sharing the lodge. So, Froggy con-vinces everyone that Charlie is from a strange, exotic land and doesn’t understand English. His timidity backfires when the other visitors confide in him their deepest, darkest secrets – like the fact that the minister’s young fiancé is pregnant, or the plan by a local redneck to turn to the lodge into a meeting house for the KKK. That Charlie does understand them only fuels the hilarity of the play, and leads to the ultimate comic downfall of the bad guys!

A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by Hugh Wheeler
This spring, Clear Space is diving head-first into one of the most musically intricate crea-tions of America’s greatest musical theatre composer. A tangled web of lust and love, new and rekindled, some legitimate and most illicit, is at the center of this beautiful waltz. Aging starlet Desiree Armfeldt, already engaged in an affair with the married Count Carl-Magnus, is brought face-to-face with an old flame, Fredrik Egerman, who in turn is recent-ly married to the young and innocent Anne, with whom Fredrik’s son, Henrik, is madly in love. A weekend in the country at Desiree’s mother’s residence brings all of the gossip and tension to a head, as the summer night smiles three times: on the young, the fools, and the old. Lavish music and romantic comedy blend beautifully in this stunning musical – Clear Space’s first venture into the work of Stephen Sondheim!

REALLY ROSIE
Book and Lyrics by Maurice Sendak, Music by Carole King
Our most talented students perform their own full length musical under the direction of professionals in this family friendly musical. The story follows a typical summer day in the life of the Nutshell Kids, a group of several neighborhood friends, including Pierre, Alliga-tor, Johnny and Chicken Soup from the Nutshell Library books, and Rosie and Kathy from The Sign on Rosie’s Door. Rosie, the self-proclaimed sassiest kid on her block of Brooklyn’s Avenue P, entertains everyone by directing and starring in an “Oscar-winning” movie based on the exciting, dramatic, funny (and slightly exaggerated) story of her life.
